Abdullah Ahmad Badawi resigned as Malaysia's 5th Prime Minister in April 2009. To be fair, there were many intervening events between July 2008 and April 2009.

7 March 2008: The Malaysian Insider gives their prediction for the 12th Malaysian General Election:

The Malaysian Insider has learned that as it stands now, the Barisan Nasional will win 78% of the 222 parliamentary seats [..]

Election 2008 will provide more proof that many things remain constant in Malaysian politics, despite the political temperature and bluster.

For the time being, Penang will remain in the hands of the BN, thanks to the strong showing by Umno candidates. MIC will be wiped out with two of their state seats – Bagan Dalam and Perai – falling to the DAP. The opposition could capture as many as 11 of the 40 state seats, even take 15, which would deny the state government its two-thirds majority.

There was a swing of 10.63% to Pakatan Rakyat. BN won 140 seats in the lower house, with around 50.27% of the vote.
