Hate mail

Now I'm not the most popular or interesting person on earth. In fact, I get excited when the bank sends me a letter containing my bank statement and "offers" to switch to their insurance scheme. And certainly any comparison with me and Danny Choo is like comparing my $90 second hand bicycle with the Bugatti Veyron: what is there to compare?

However, while publicly dancing in a Storm Trooper suit gets you a lot of attention, not to mention creating your own eroge(?) and anime, Hate mail is bound to follow. Just ask Kenny. But boring old me, where the highlight of my day is actually having time to read the papers?

People who know me will probably know I'm the anti-christ "founder" of the anti-Haruhiist movement. Which at this point has the grand total membership of 1. And generally it stayed there, save for the occasional joker who somehow stumbled across it. However, I got my first "hate mail" (the quotation marks are there for a reason) 19 June 2008, which went along the lines of:

The next one came not too far behind:

At this point, I must say the humor started wearing a bit thin, but as I thought things couldn't get any lower, came along:

Frankly, when Hahiru came out, I thought of writing a post that said "Haruhiism makes people unable to spell. But I realised that Malaysian's can't spell either, so lets move on. However, it did set me thinking maybe it does impair people to actually spell properly. And I'm even talking about English either.

I'm still no fan of the Haruhi fandom, but I accept it in the same way we have to accept the odd loony now-and-then entering the bus and shouting/laughing like a mad man. Either that, or I should really stop taking the bus late at night. I still can't see what people see in goth.

Can I just say, I'm not exactly assaulting the first Haruhi cosplayer I see. I just take pictures of and with them.

The whole anti-Haruhiism movement was cooked up in the deep depths of New Zealands winter, when the sun at at 5pm and it was freezing. For a laugh, I wondered what would it be like if the Haruhiism fandom was treated like an invading army, a idea not lost on the US release. Somehow, it found a life of its own, which is a amazing feat considering that membership has never been greater than 1.

Maybe I'm bad at producing it, but satire is probably a tough concept for most people to grasp.

Liars

20 November 2007: [I]it looks like it'll [the Kuching-Jakarta and Kuching-Singapore routes] be (introduced) in the first quarter (of next year) [2008].

3rd April 2008: Low-cost carrier AirAsia started its Kuching-Jakarta flight Tuesday [1 April 2008], and it will also kick off Kuching-Bali flight on May 2, and fly the Kuching-Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuching-Singapore routes in June.

Today is the end of August. And there is still no sign of a Kuching-Singapore route.

All "westerners" are the same. We will be forgotten once we have outlived our usefulness. Or when the first sign of the ship sinking (high fuel prices) becomes clear.

You know you're in trouble when........

you start watching the same CLANNAD scene in English:

Mandarin:

and French:

I'm no Yuri fanboy (my personal motto is "If it isn't yaoi fangirls, its yuri fangirls"), but I think I know this scene as well as someone who understand's 日本语。

While I understand soeur, what exactly is hein? Sounds German. And is vous deux really 你们这些家伙/ you sons of...?

Does anyone understand French here?

A typical lunch for me. Sandwich: $5.50. chipssyrup, whipcream :$2.50

*Sigh*

A lesson in life

Girls are allowed to camwhore. Anywhere. In the bus. Walking up the stairs to someone's birthday party. In the toilet (don't ask me how I know). In the bedroom. While cooking. While dissecting a pig's heart.

Guys (like me) on the other hand, look gormless regardless of how the picture was taken, be it a professional or a 19-bit camera phone.

Censorship and Singapore

I am filled with rage.

So there I was, casually surfing the net after work, when I saw this at Dannychoo.com:

Zero no Tsukaima: Princess no Rondo on Singaporean public television?!

Actually, this is a side effect over the whole Odex controversy. To "curb" illegal downloading, Odex decided to bring some anime over to Singapore on the same week of broadast in Japan. This is nothing new: in Australia, some American drama's such as CSI, House etc are screened on the same day on public television as the US, in a move to, you guessed it, curb rampant illegal downloading of episodes.

So somehow, Arts Central is broadcasting Princess no Rondo.

Admittedly, it is shown at 11.30pm. But still, that is a small concession considering in its native Japan, Princess no Rondo is shown at 12.30AM (the earliest time) on TV Chiba.

Actar counted "ten deleted scenes" for ep 6 of Princess no Rondo. That is nothing. 15: The Movie, a Singaporean film about the Singaporean underworld, needed at least 27 cuts before it got through the censorship board, and there was not a single inch of flesh (or yuri girls for that matter) in the original.

Actually, knowing Singapore (and Malaysia), I'd be very surprised if it wsn't cut. And what's all the fuss about censorship? The show of naked apron Siesta (for fanboys) was blocked by a "BLINDING LIGHT OF DECENCY" in the original broadcast anyway.

Then again, I'm amazed that Shakugan no Shana is shown on NTV7 back in Malaysia. At 12.30pm (yes, noon) to boot. I just have 3 questions:
1)How did they deal with the OP?
2) ep15. How? How did they deal with it? They had to skip it, or else it'd be only 10 minutes long after all that butchering.
3) And what about ep 9?

I'm not about to start on the whole censorship debate. Suffice to say, I think we need censorship, but the question is, do we have an alternative?
