- Talkman (PSP-240) is a program developed by Sony Computer Entertainment for the Sony PlayStation Portable video game console. It is a voice-activated translation software application that operates in four languages Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese (Mandarin). The name "Talkman" is a reference to Sony's Walkman line of portable audio products. It was released in Japan on November 17, 2005.
- The software is designed for travellers and entertainment, mostly containing slang and useful travel phrases. While originally sold in and designed for the Japanese market for Japanese users, its translation function operates between all four languages. In Japan, the software has proven popular with the middle-aged female demographic due to an interest in South Korean products, and Korean-language soap operas and movies; and as a fun English education aid for children .

Hey. If Kennysia can review a unique NZ invention called Hell's pizza, why cant I do burger fuel?
New Zealand has some of the best burgers around the world. And this is from a guy who has eaten KFC, McD, Bruger King, Wendy's, Sugar Bun and Burger Fuel.
Burger fuel is set up by some Kiwi brainchild who decided that life is too short to eat bad burgers. So having alot of spare time (and some capital) he decided to make the ultimate burger. The best on earth. The one burger above all burgers.
Well, thats the offical story anyway.
So it all started .....

The insides quite cool and funky. I like the lamps.
The inside. Burger fuel is not like thecopycats other outlets. They dont have their range above the top, ala McD. Everything is in a nice little board in the centre of the picture.
As expected, the names are different. V8 Vegan anyone?

Yes, we all know that life is short and fragile. I'm not sure about the healthy part through. Its still packed with oil, mayonese, tons of meat, and more BBQ sauce. It tastes GREAT, but I wouldnt call it "healthy".
Before you can eat however, you need to get something they call a "Doofer", to help you eat the burger.

The staff there are quite nice, and service is usually quite fast. And at last, here is my burger!

Its sooooooo big, that you can't eat the burger like a "normal" burger. Rememeber the Doofer just now? It has to be "supported"!
The sad thing about being alone is that I usually have to take the pictures. This is why most of my pics in NZ are without me. Its not easy to find people who can walk for miles and miles. Most people get tired after walking the full length of Queens st in Auckland City.

Acctually, I was surprised to learn how consevertive NZ was. Sunday papers, for instance, were actually illegal until the 70's. It was the Sabbath, and the chruch still held a strong sway. Shops were not allowed to open before 10am on Sundays, persumably to allow people to go to church.

Sim Lim square
Some old pics I took while I was in Singapore. Sim Lim square. Used to be the place for geeks like us before the exchange rate shot up and lowyat became a cheaper and easier place for us poor Malaysians.
The only REAL difference between Sim Lim and Lowyat is that Sim Lim is devoid of any ciggrate smoke. And pirated software. While lowyat is FILLED with BOTH of them. The pirated stuff I dont mind, but the ciggrate smoke. Honestly, we have signs in 3 Languages (No smoking, Jangan Merokok, 请不要抽烟), and they still fill the place so we all die before 40.
Anyway, pics:
The good news is that Singaporeans usually dont mind you taking pics of their shops in Sim Lim. They guys in NZ and Lowyat at times can get defensive. Why, I do not know. Once I was told beacuse it was copyright, but honestly, if I wanted to setal your trade secrets, I'd buy and revese assemble your stuff, not take a picture of the outside of the shop! BAKA!

Johor bahru, the city of crime
This is a rant against Johor Bahru., also known as the city of crime. This post is not aimed at the people who live and work there, in peace and within legal means. It is targeted at the usual airhead politictions we have to put up.
To me, JB is nothing more that a place that the Malaysian government props up by stunting the growth of the nation. JB is nothing more than a shell, a city of crime, a place where people go back to sleep because its cheaper than Singapore. Its like Shenzhen with Hong Kong: some of the HK cantonese I've talked to dont like Shenzhen much. The HK traids all use that as theri Mainland China base apperently, and its the stop for "uncultured mainland chinese" (his words, not mine) before they enter HK.
The only reason JB exists is as a stop over point for East Malaysians like me enroute to Singapore. And why? Well, this is the time line of events:
Anyway, back to JB, the city of crime. In the good old days, Singapore airlines used to do a KCH-SIN route. MAS did a KCH-SIN route. Then some stupid guy called Osama bin Laden or Mossad or Bush, depending on who u believe (google "loose change 9/11"), had to ram a couple planes in some building. Anyway, it gave SIA, ever kiasu, to use it as a excuse to stop flying to "non-profitable" destinations like Kuching. Then MAS reduced their flights to once a day, from a peak of 5 times (or more) a day. One by one, airlines abandoned Sarawak (Dragonair, Batavia etc), and we were cut off from brother singapore.
Then some guy called Tony came along with delays-are-forever AirAisa, and did a KCH-JBH flight. Despite the insane delays at times, and having to fight through the nightmare called the causeway, Kuchingites LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED Tony for Airasia. Suddently, if you dont mind no food, delays and having to fight your way down the causeway, Singapore was in reach of most people.
So this is the conspiricy: Malaysian gov refuses Tiger airways, and Singapore refuses Airasia. So the forgotten people of the east in a land called Sarwarak have to go to JB, the place of crime, where roads are terrible, pirate taxis everywhere, public transport is unrealible, the place littered with half finished buildings by contracters who dissapear with the money, fighting the menance of motorbikes....
To go to the land of good roads, public transport, infrastructure, education (look at how many people are trying for the ASEAN scholarship), and shopping (ignore the exchange rate). In the process, we inaverterbly prop up a useless city that only serves as a hideout for our killer sultan and Ah Longs.
The thing that worries me is that a new generation is going to grow up and think flying to JB, the city of crime, and fighting the causeway on their way down to Singapore, is normal. AirAsia, the Malaysian and Singaporean governments have destroyed civilised air travel for us Sarawakians. I'm serious. Putting up with airhead Ah Bengs and Ah Lians on Airasia aside, its like a lawless place everytime people board any airasia flight. Fighting, jostling, what about my grandmother? Cant these people understand English, Bm AND Chinese?
MY LAMENT: WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CIVILISED AIR TRAVEL!?

James May of Top Gear once said (cant remember which ep) "France is not a country. France is a place you have to drive through to get to Italy." (The British dont like the french very much. Dont ask me why. I'm okay with both of them. Heck, I served the Group of Frenchmen when I was still working.). I say "JB is not a place. Its a place you have to fight through to get to Singapore."
I'm honestly shocked. From Singapore to JB, you even can tell whcih side of the cause way are you on! After clearing Singapore, you get on the 1.2KM long causeway. Somewhere, the smooth road, the proper pavements give way to cracked roads, pavements which are falling apart and pot holes and a nice big sign that says "Daulat Tuanku" to our murderer ex-Sultan. AND I"M STILL ON THE CAUSEWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont get it. HOW, can the same strech of road be so clear cut? Normally borders usually melt with the other country. I mean, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the only difference is probably the spitters and everything is in Simplified Chinese. Tinjuana in the US Mexico border; the only thing is the language. And the US side is probably neater. But the people are the same. JB-SIN? It might as well be a bridge between Earth and the Moon!
If you still dont believe, look at Google earth. Even google earth tells the different road surfaces between the SIN and the MAS side! HOW,CAN THE SAME STRECH OF ROAD BE SO DIFFERENT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?
So as you can see, if its not Malaya leeching us dry, its Singapore killing us. Its amazing what we Sarawakians put up with. If this was the Balklands, we'd (Sararwak) be declaring independence right now! I mean, why do we have to put up with these 2? Just give us back civilised air travel to Singapore!
Tell me old timers: what good has the formation of Malaysia ever done for Sarawak? Other than keeping us from being part of Indonesia? (I think we were quite happy with the British, even with their shortcomings)

Found out that my passport expires this year. Found out again that QUT hanst given me a firm offer! It was still a conditional offer. Still cant decide. Swing between Adelaide and QUT. morning adelaide, afternoon qut, evening qut, night adelaide. and you girls think you have it bad.
Monday
run to immigratinon office in the rain and more rain to do passport. gov offices are boring. SMS spam all my friends while there. the only good thing was that the officer that dealt with me was very polite and nice. and spoke english with me. which is rare in malaysia. if anyone wants her name, it was a "Elizabeth" something. Non-malay, which might explain the english. rain didnt help with the floor slightly wet due to all the umbrellas and the wet foot wear. Tv was broken, which explains the boredom. When youre bored, even looking at a baby in the mothers arms is oodly calming and entertaining. Yes, i think i'm going mad.
reread all the course structure for both adelaide and qut. reread all over again. rack my head. toss a coin. drew lots. If i follow tossing a coin, adelaide is the way. If i follow drawing lots, its qut.sometimes i wish i had a clear, undisputible sign from God.Like a voice from the heavens. or a powerful dream where God tells me where to go.Or its written in black and white in the bible. Like something in the Book of 2nd Timothy, chapter 80 verse 17 "And thus, God instructed Timothy to go to QUT/Adelaide to spead the gospel" or something like that. (There is no chapter 80 in any of the NT books BTW AFAIK).

Got a email/call/fax/whatever from QUT and AUSED asking me to convert my NCEA scores to the Old Bursury system! I was like "^%$^&*R#@!!@$%^&*()__(*&^%$#!@#$%$#@#%&**&^%$##%^^%$@@$^&^%$!". Bursury was discontinued in 2003! It is IMPOSSIBLE to convert the NCEA scores to bursury. I sent a email saying "If you want me to convert, I'd say I got full marks!". Told QUT to go to QTAC and get my results, idiot! Run into more blunders. If i was still in a mad mood I'd put up the email transcripts here, but I'm a nice guy. told qut that if UQ can do it and get my results from QTAC, why not them?
spent the night looking at baby photos of me, my siblings, my cousins who I will not name here. yes, in think were all going mad in this house. still undecided to go where. Flavour of the night:Adelaide.

Woken up by Aused telling me that QUT took me in. Got letter. Talked with Nick and Cryst on the pro and cons of QUT and Adelaide. Flavour as I type this: QUT.
I hope that the admin blunder of QUT is not reflective of what the uni is like........

Sick, tired, confused and still blogging
If I was better, I would blog about how the cowards at jalan Riong are scared of two individuals, sueing them. But I'm sick, and I have more pressings issues in my life other than this. But mark my words: I am with you, Jeff and Rocky.
Offers from Adelaide, UQ and QUT came in a few days ago. I quit my job, after one week. The crush of info was amazing. I really couldnt keep up. Then I got sick, no thanks to working at "living room". I'm still sick, which is why I've been turning down all offers to go out. Sorry Aaron.
So far, I've got firm offers for Adelaide, UQ, Auckland U and Canterbury. As much as I love NZ, I dont think i can go back there. If you must know why, it is because thanks to NCEA, the poor NZ uni's cant figure out how to rank students by their NCEA (like STPM) results. So First year law is open entry. Means that any tom, dick and harry can get in. BUT, they narrow down in the 2nd year. To 300 people. That was fine when only 400 people went into Law. 100 will be singled out. But in 2006, 1000+ peoplpe decided to do law, either for fun (YES! The ang mo's DO that!) or for real. Either way, the numbers dont look good for me. What happens if I dont get into 2nd year law? Its ok for the PR and citizens, who only pay NZ$200/semester, but for me, international student, paying NZ$9000/semester (I think there are 2 semesters in 1 yr), that is money I can ill afford to waste. Espically when it expands by a factor of 2.4 thanks to the exchange rate.
So, across the ditch I went, to OZ. Andstupidly applied for 4 uni's there!

Offers from Adelaide, UQ and QUT came in a few days ago. I quit my job, after one week. The crush of info was amazing. I really couldnt keep up. Then I got sick, no thanks to working at "living room". I'm still sick, which is why I've been turning down all offers to go out. Sorry Aaron.
So far, I've got firm offers for Adelaide, UQ, Auckland U and Canterbury. As much as I love NZ, I dont think i can go back there. If you must know why, it is because thanks to NCEA, the poor NZ uni's cant figure out how to rank students by their NCEA (like STPM) results. So First year law is open entry. Means that any tom, dick and harry can get in. BUT, they narrow down in the 2nd year. To 300 people. That was fine when only 400 people went into Law. 100 will be singled out. But in 2006, 1000+ peoplpe decided to do law, either for fun (YES! The ang mo's DO that!) or for real. Either way, the numbers dont look good for me. What happens if I dont get into 2nd year law? Its ok for the PR and citizens, who only pay NZ$200/semester, but for me, international student, paying NZ$9000/semester (I think there are 2 semesters in 1 yr), that is money I can ill afford to waste. Espically when it expands by a factor of 2.4 thanks to the exchange rate.
So, across the ditch I went, to OZ. And
Basic rundown on the pro and con's for all of them:
Melbroune:
- Top 10 in the world
- Law school is legendary
- City of 4 mil, very lively
- Home of F1 in OZ
- BUT, will cost my parents AU$ alot, lets just say once I graduate, the ammount spent will be in 6 digits!
- Cost of living is SKY HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (AU$600/month for a room?!)
- International students dont get student discounts for public transport (unlike NZ and QLD)
- Part of the Group of 8.
- If I decide to stay in OZ, I look better coming out from Melb than other uni's I applied.
- COst may force my sister to scale back her plans.
- Law/computer science is only 5 yrs long
- ITS SOOO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!!!I NEED A JPA!!!!Honestly, being bound to the gov for 6 years doesnt look so bad afterall! Chain me! Shackle me! Just give me a JPA! (no chance through for me)
- In nice and good old Brissy, my first OZ city love
- The weather. I was built for the tropics, not 0C winter! Melb had a white christmas last year! In summer! @_@
- Can only do law. Comp science too long.
- ONly 2 law-see elektives (melb has 8!)
- I get student discounts!
- Cost of living is WAAAAAAAY cheaper.
- I know Aaron! (Update yr blog lah!)
- Law only. Come out as a lawyer, susah to get a job in IZ. Too many lawyers! (hold the jookes!)
- Comp science is 6.5 years! Longer than Medcine! *insert all the Kuching swear words here*

- Its not too bad, smack right in the middle of the city
- Cost of living is not too bad either

- Nowhere to be seen in the uni rankings through
- Talked with insiders who dont have good words for their IT department
- Their Law prog is better than their IT dept apperently
- Lets put it this way: who would you rather employ? Some one from top-2-in-OZ Melb or a guy from some place called QUT with the same qualification?

- Very remote: Qantas has only flights 3 times a week to SIN. I miss sydney: flights to SIN 3 times A DAY! Perth has daily flights to SIN through. Odd.
- Cheap to stay and study, expensive to get out of there!
- Graduate, its like Kuching: no jobs unless you go to the boom states (WA, NSW, QLD)
- My gut feelings says: "Tim, dont do anything stupid"
- Law degree (and medcine apperently) NOT RECONSIED in S;pore!
SO what? Adelaide? UQ? QUT? Melb? I cant make a dection! I dont want to make a wrong choice. This is literary, a life changing decition. ANd I cant think!

Smoke and Mirrors
So, after working at "The Living Room", I found out about one thing: Not many people know where it is. Almost everyone knows where "The Junk" is, and "Bla Bla Bla", but not the living room.
Well, here's a easy to remember it: "The Living room" is smack right in between "The Junk" and Bla bla bla.
One of the few things that me and my whole family agree on is our dislike for smokers. We've all learnt the drill in school: smoking will kill you, you get lung cancer, your breath stinks, men will produce low quality sperm, women will find it harder to conceive and if you do, the poor child is deformed, you waste money, your lungs are as good as made out of tar etc etc etc.
Another thing we don't mind, and can expect ever year when the budget is unveiled, is that the price of cigarettes will ALWAYS go up. Y'know, sin taxes. Which is the only good thing, beacuse for me the only good thing the Budget has ever done for me was in 2003, where the outgoing Mahathir cut broadband prices.
After working at "living Room", I've noticed that it is possible for people to go through a pack of cigarettes per hour. And still talk. Honestly, these people smoke so much, I feel like it's the haze all over again. We servers need oxygen y'know!
I'm well aware of the medical science behind passive somking (ie working next to people who somke). And let me put it this way: if you want to die before 40, go ahead. The "Human rights activists" will gladly support you. But I want to live. I want to see my grandkids. I want to breathe fresh air. And the "Human rights activists" will call that a basic right.
So can smokers PLEASE refrain from smoking in air cond, closed places?

Auckland Sydney flight
This is supposed to be a prequel to the previous SYD-SIN flight. Read the previous post first if you wish. At least you'll be in chronological order. This is between the SYD-SIN flight and the photo post of Auckland airport.

Saw this Cathay while pulling out. Didn't see it while in the termial through.

This pic was taken just seconds after the seat belt light had gone off. As you can see there are people getting out of their seats to their cabin luggage.
As you can see, I was using the uber cool A320 to SYD, with its flip screens! Bet you don't get that in AirAsia's A320! I've always loved those flip screens that come down.
the flight to SYD from AKL is not too long, 3 and a half hours. barely enough for a movie. But after individual screens in seats, now with VOD, its a bit hard to get used to a screen far far in front. But on this flight, they showed a South African movie. Can't remember the title, but it's a story about a boy from the rual areas which goes to Johanesburg. Or Cape Town. Can't remember. The story is ok.
It's just that the movie was in Swahili or something. Either way, I couldn't understand it. There were English subtitles, but they were in like font size 10, and from my seat a bit hard to read. So after a bit of straining, I gave up, and read the inflight mag, trying to ignore the loveydooey couple next to me.
Travelling alone sucks.
