3 years of the Twtter Gems series

Source.

To be honest, it was only recently that I realised that my Twitter Gems series is now 3 years old! What started as a personal observation to a rather questionable set of tweets on Twitter has morphed into a on-off series on some of the best 140 characters that have emanated from people who can compress their thoughts into such constraints.

While I did not start off to actually have a running series on some of the gems I find scrolling through the usual suspects that I haunt, little by little I realised that there are some gems in the 140 million tweets sent each day.

Such a textual flood is almost impossible to search through, although Google and Datasift are trying. Most tweets are not indexed by Twitter's own search engine after a few days, and usually unless you know the exact link of the tweet it is, for all intents and purposes, lost forever, unless you have a record somewhere.

Me personally? I can't do micro-blogging. My life is not that boring to be able to fit into 1120 bits, but neither is it interesting enough to warrant a constant stream of continuous updates in short bursts. The 140 character limit is too stifling for verbose people like me, and breaking it up into multiple tweets breaks the line of thought of my words.

Gawd, the English! (Or lack of)

And we wonder why there are unemployed graduates that are a drain on society in Malaysia.

National Boardband models

Interesting commentary: Opennet problems threaten to spoil Singapore’s fibre broadband experience

There is no National Broadband Network model which will satisfy everyone. While Malcom Turnbull puts the the Malaysian HSBB model on a pedestal, industry players in Malaysia wish for the level playing ground that Australia's NBN Co is.

Singapore's Opennet is between Malaysia, where the incumbent telco is given the task of wiring up the nation, and Australia's NBN Co, which will most probably be Telstra mark 2. On paper it looked like a good middle ground, but with the teething problems it is facing I do wonder maybe there is some merit on how TM was awarded the tender to build HSBB.

Me personally? I'm in no hurry to get fibre to my premises. Being in inner-city Brisbane, I generally do not lack choice or speed. I'm quite happy for the country (and no so urban) cousins get first dibs.

The only thing that drives me mad about the NBN is the asymmetrical speeds. Even HSBB provides symmetrical upload speeds, even if it starting at a low base.

旋风管家 - 12

With one episode to go, the drama levels really get ramped up. All I'm saying is that there is not enough tsundere. That is all I'm saying.

BTW, the BTS sections where Park Shin-Hye tries to speak Mandarin are surprisingly watchable.

Hayate no Gotoku is not helping my belief that while I'm not sure if manga is the reason why I'll never get married, it certainly tells me the reason why I'll never get married.

OMG, what have they done to Katsura Yukiji?!

Park Shin-Hye isn't too bad as poor terrified Nagi.

BTW, Yukiji has some brilliant logic: "A salary wage is like a woman's period: it only comes once a month, and lasts no more than 5 days"!

Clearly the script writers had fun doing Hayate no Gotoku!
